Showcases-Open Mics | Amateur Comedy Contests between workshop students

Nine Comedy Marathon Contests (CMCs), Prize: $150.
Three Run-Offs (R-Os) for Prize: $300
before the Comic of the Year Contest (COY): $1,000.
Total prize money which goes to winner of CMC, R-O and COY: $1,450!

Not too late for new students to get in on these amateur comedy contests.
Because we still have four contests remaining, dates to be announced:
1-2) Two CMCs to go.
3) Plus, the third of three R-Os.
4) Not to mention the final COY!

For the past year, all these contests have been held at:
The Big Easy in Petaluma, CA, Sundays, 7-10 pm.

This is a 100 seat underground Restaurant & Jazz Club in Historic Downtown Petaluma in American Alley!
The Big Easy features live music 6 nights per week,
in addition to occasionally hosting special events like our CMCs,
and offers a full dinner menu from 6:30pm until 11pm or later:

2nd Run-Off (R-O) between three CMC winners and Wild Card Candidate
each performing 17-minute sets, Sun., Aug. 27, 7:30 pm for $300 prize.
Mystery guest:
professional stand-up comic performs after this contest while judge's scores are tallied.

Then, three Run-Off Winners compete in
Comic of the Year Contest (COY) with 30-minute sets for $1,000 prize

Total COY winner collects: $150 + $300 + $1,000 = $1,450

Total prize pool:
9 CMCs x $150 = $1,350 (final two CMCs will be scheduled early this fall)
+ 3 R-Os x $300 = $900 (last R-O will be scheduled mid-fall)
+ COY $1,000 = (COY will be scheduled end of 2017 or early 2018)
Total prize pool: $3,250

History of this high-profile amateur comedy contest between Jim's comedy class students:
Since May 24, 2015, Jim Richardson has revived the Comedy Marathon Contest,
held after six-week comedy workshops he taught year-round at SSU 1980-1983:


Order of events at CMC Run-Off 8-27-2017:

MC Tim Wang Lee, winner of $150 CMC CMC in July 2017,
does a warm-up act, explains and demonstrates light cues
& introduces the Judges.

Main event: 17-Minute Monologue Contest
Mystery Guest: a professional stand-up comic performs while judges add up their contest score sheet,
then Scorekeeper checks the judge's score sheets
to determine over-all winner for tonight's CMC Run-Off.

Awards ceremony: officiated by CMC producer/instructor Jim Richardson:
Each contestant is brought on stage Miss America style (4th place, 3rd, 2nd, winner) to tell one last joke on mic.
Finally, the $300 cash prize is awarded to the Winner.

Then, by the end of 2017 or beginning of 2018,
the three CMC Run-Off Winners meet in the
Comic of the Year Contest, doing 30-minute acts for a prize of $1,000

No refunds nor exchanges are permitted after your order has processed.

Once you have made your investment by purchasing tickets online through this form,

after which that seat will be given to a Standing Room Only (SRO) audience member.
Late arrivals with reserved seats will be given the best seats still available.
