Final Cut Express class: began in September, weekly on Monday nights and will continue throughout the school year until June, 6:30pm, at El Molino High School in Forestville. Small class, hands-on, two of the lab's computers have Final Cut Pro whereas all computers have Final Cut Express which is used to help you learn Final Cut Pro. Instructor is El Molino's tech guy and he is very good at pointing out the differences between Express and Pro. Excellent class for Beginners to learn the mutual interface between Express and Pro. Bring: your camcorder or external FireWire drive or laptop or just a mini-DV tape so you can upload your mini-DV movies to an Apple computer in class and start editing immediately. Informal setting, so you can get any FCP and related computer questions answered here. OK to join this class at any time. Fee: free!
You can also find an Apple
Authorized Training Center near you which offers classes in Final Cut Pro.
Most helpful FCP book I have found to date for FCP 4.x and above--Intermediate/Advanced time-saving workflow and techniques:
Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Pro by SFCutters President and co-founder Kevin Monahan, (exercises files, free custom plug-ins "not found anywhere else"), Peach Pit Press, ISBN: 0-321-17915-3, Published: 2004, 454 pages; buy.com
I attended Kevin's 2-day workshop which includes a copy of this book in November 2005 and highly recommend it as one of the best computer seminars I have ever attended and the most FCP help I have found anywhere else. Kevin is beginning a national and international tour; for updated information and examples from the DVD, check out Kevin's web site: http://www.fcpworld.com/fcpworld/workshops.html
